Results of visitor expenditure survey for the first half of 2026
MACAU, August 7 - Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total non-gaming spending of visitors stood at MOP44.47 billion in the first half of 2026, up by 17.4% year-on-year. Of which, total spending of overnight visitors (MOP32.41 billion) and that of same-day visitors (MOP12.05 billion) rose by 8.0% and 53.5% respectively.
Per-capita non-gaming spending of visitors was MOP2,123 in the first half year, an increase of 7.8% year-on-year. Per-capita spending of overnight visitors (MOP4,024) and same-day visitors (MOP935) rose by 7.7% and 33.2% respectively. As regards type of expense, visitors spent mainly on shopping (46.0% of total), followed by accommodation (22.3%) and food & beverages (21.5%). Analysed by main purpose of visit, visitors coming to the Macao Special Administrative Region for MICE events had relatively high per-capita spending (MOP4,593) in the first half year.
Analysed by source of visitors, per-capita non-gaming spending of visitors from the Chinese mainland (MOP2,361) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong SAR, MOP1,170) rose by 4.8% and 24.4% year-on-year respectively in the first half year, whereas spending of those from the Taiwan region (MOP1,888) decreased by 2.7%. Besides, per-capita spending of international visitors (MOP2,110) recorded a year-on-year increase of 12.0%. Regarding the Northeast Asian markets, per-capita spending of visitors from the Republic of Korea (MOP2,489) and Japan (MOP2,326) grew by 20.3% and 31.2% year-on-year respectively. For the Southeast Asian markets, spending of visitors from Singapore (MOP3,465) and Malaysia (MOP1,850) showed respective growth of 19.3% and 6.9% year-on-year, while spending of those from Thailand (MOP2,081) dropped by 10.1%.
In the second quarter of 2026, total non-gaming spending of visitors went up by 9.8% year-on-year to MOP20.04 billion, with that of overnight visitors (MOP15.16 billion) and same-day visitors (MOP4.87 billion) growing by 3.6% and 35.1% respectively. Meanwhile, per-capita non-gaming spending of visitors (MOP2,059) went up by 5.6% year-on-year. Analysed by principal source of visitors, per-capita spending of visitors from the Chinese mainland (MOP2,324) and the Hong Kong SAR (MOP1,138) rose by 5.5% and 13.9% year-on-year respectively, whereas spending of those from the Taiwan region (MOP1,774) and international markets (MOP2,032) went down by 12.6% and 4.8% respectively. Analysed by main purpose of visit, per-capita spending of MICE visitors (MOP4,630) remained relatively high in the second quarter.
DSEC conducts the Visitor Expenditure Survey to collect data from visitors on their amount of non-gaming spending during their stay in the Macao Special Administrative Region. Extrapolated data on visitors’ spending are published on a quarterly basis.
