Iran Claims Retaliatory Drone Action After US Seizes Cargo Ship

(MENAFN) According to reports, Iranian media outlets have stated that Iranian forces carried out drone activity targeting US vessels following an American operation involving the seizure of an Iranian-linked cargo ship in the region.

Semi-official sources in Iran reported that drones were deployed after US forces boarded a container vessel identified as the *Touska*. The reports did not clarify whether any of the alleged targets were military or commercial ships.

Iranian authorities had earlier indicated that they would respond after the vessel was intercepted, describing the incident as a violation of a ceasefire arrangement that was brokered with regional mediation and has been in effect since early April.

Additional Iranian media accounts claimed that US forces disabled the ship’s navigation systems before boarding it, with military-linked statements describing the action as part of what they consider an unlawful seizure at sea.

The vessel is reported to have departed from a port in Malaysia before the incident occurred, based on available shipping data cited in reports. Iranian military representatives alleged that the ship was fired upon prior to being boarded by US personnel.

On the US side, military officials confirmed the interception of an Iranian-flagged vessel in the Gulf region, stating that it was stopped while attempting to move through a restricted maritime zone. According to reports, US forces took control of the ship and continue to hold it under their custody.

US military statements also included video material showing the interception process, including warnings issued before the boarding operation.

Iranian representatives strongly condemned the action, describing it as a breach of the ceasefire agreement and accusing US forces of conducting what they termed an act of maritime aggression. They also warned that a response would follow, though no further operational details were provided.

The situation adds to ongoing tensions in the region, where maritime security, shipping routes, and ceasefire arrangements remain highly sensitive and subject to rapid escalation.
