Russia should focus on ending Ukraine war not test missiles—Trump
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during his trip from Malaysia to Japan, part of a broader Asia tour, Trump dismissed the significance of Russia’s missile launch, which reportedly has a range of 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles).
He noted that the US already maintains strong nuclear capabilities near Russian territory. “We test missiles all the time,” Trump said, adding, “You ought to get the war ended ... instead of testing missiles.”
Since beginning his second term in January, Trump has made ending the Ukraine conflict a key diplomatic goal. He met Russian President Vladimir Putin in August but later cancelled a planned follow-up summit in Budapest, explaining that he did not want a “wasted meeting.”
Despite US and European appeals to halt hostilities, Moscow has continued to reject calls for a ceasefire or to freeze the conflict along current battle lines.
